Teas. Scent Reminiscent of Tea?Not the hardiest of roses but worth growing because there are some very beautiful, heavily scented cultivars. If you live in a cold area it is wise to give these roses some protection in winter or to grow them in pots so that they can be over-wintered in a cool greenhouse or conservatory. If they have a fault it is a sparceness of foliage and a somewhat lax growth but I for one can overlook that. They originated in the East where Sir Abraham Hume discovered Rosa indica odorata, now more frequently known as ‘Hume’s Blush’ in 1810. More soon followed and were thought to have been transported to Europe aboard ships belonging to the East India Tea Company, hence their name.
