Hailing from Denmark, its name translates to "lucky find," reflecting its extraordinary charm and performance in any garden. Characteristics: - Height and Spread: The Lykkefund is an impressive climber, reaching heights of 550 to 610 cm (18 to 20 feet) and spreading up to 450 cm (15 feet). Its stature makes it perfect for adorning pergolas, arches, and even mature trees, providing coverage that transforms any outdoor space. - Flowers: Expect medium-sized, semi-double blooms that begin as delightful creamy-pink buds, eventually softening to a pale creamy white. Blooming in generous clusters, these fragrant flowers offer an enchanting musk scent that fills the air beautifully. - Foliage: The leaves of the Lykkefund are medium green and glossy with a sturdy, leathery texture. Minimal thorns on the main and lateral canes make handling a pleasure. - Growth Habit: With a climbing, spreading, and branchy nature, this rose adapts beautifully to various settings, thriving in garden areas ranging from sun-dappled woodlands to north-facing walls. Growing Conditions: - Sun and Soil: Thriving in full sun, the Lykkefund adapts well to various soil types, including less fertile ground. It can also tolerate some shade, making it versatile for different garden placements. - Pruning: To maintain its shape and encourage healthy growth, prune the Lykkefund after its flowering ends. This helps promote a vigorous display of blooms each season. Additional Features: - Disease Resistance: While it may not be renowned for specific disease resistance, the Lykkefund is overall a hard-working variety, ready to impress. - Attractiveness: This delightful rose not only captivates with its beauty but also attracts bees and other pollinators, enhancing the biodiversity of your garden. Its autumn display, featuring vibrant orange hips, adds a charming seasonal touch. Gardening Tips: - Training: The Lykkefund’s long, flexible canes are perfect for training up trees, fences, or trellises. Harness its climbing ability to maximise its show-stopping presence in your garden. - Group Planting: Consider planting the Lykkefund in groups to create a dramatic, cascading effect that will turn any woodland setting into a floral spectacle.
