Key Characteristics

  • Type: Climbing Tea Rose
  • Introduction: Introduced in 1833, this rose is one of the earliest examples of Tea roses.
  • Flowers: The blooms showcase large, fully double flowers in shades of peachy-buff, amber, and apricot, with delightful hints of pink at the core. These exquisite flowers often appear in small clusters or singly.
  • Fragrance: Exceptionally fragrant, making it an ideal choice for gardens where scent is paramount.
  • Growth: This versatile rose can climb adorably along a short wall or be shaped as a shrub with support. It is robust but should be protected from harsh winter conditions.
  • Leaves: Enhanced by large, dark green leaves that create a lush backdrop for the stunning blooms.

Planting and Care

  • Planting: For the best results, plant the Adam Climbing Rose in well-draining soil. If you acquire it as a bare root plant, ensure the roots remain moist, and avoid planting during frosty weather. If the conditions are frosty upon arrival, allow the weather to improve before planting.
  • Support: It is essential to provide climbing support such as a trellis or short wall. If cultivated as a shrub, ensure it has sufficient backing to maintain its elegance.
  • Shade Tolerance: While it tolerates some shade, your rose will flourish and produce more blooms in full sunlight, enhancing its fragrance.

Additional Notes

  • Thorns: This rose features minimal thorns, making it a gardener-friendly choice.
  • Suitability: Perfect for gardens wishing to incorporate a timeless, fragrant climber that thrives in various settings.

By selecting the Adam Climbing Rose, you are choosing a piece of horticultural history that will enrich your garden with exquisite beauty and delightful fragrance for many years to come.
