Advice
What is a bare root rose?

A bare root rose is a rose plant that is sold with its roots exposed rather than planted in soil in a pot. These are typically available during the rose's dormancy period (late autumn to early spring) and are often chosen for planting in gardens.

Little Sunset (Patio Rose)

Description:

The Little Sunset patio shrub rose is a delightful and compact addition to any garden, particularly ideal for patio settings. Bred by W. Kordes' Söhne and introduced in 2007, this charming miniature shrub produces clusters of small, double-to-full blooms in a stunning blend of golden yellow and orange-red edges.

Key Features:

  • Flower Colour: Bi-coloured blooms showcase sunny yellow petals with cerise pink edges, offering a vibrant and captivating display.
  • Fragrance: These roses emit a light yet pleasing fragrance, enhancing their charm.
  • Growth Habit: The Little Sunset rose boasts a bushy and upright form, reaching approximately 2' 6" (75cm) in height and spread, making it perfect for pots or small garden spaces.
  • Repeat Flowering: Enjoy continual blooms from May to October, ensuring a sustained spectacle of colour throughout the growing season.
  • Disease Resistance: Highly resistant to common diseases such as powdery mildew and black spot, this rose stays vibrant and healthy even in warmer conditions.
  • Care: For best results, plant in well-drained, fertile soil in full sun and feed with a rose fertiliser twice a year. Regular deadheading encourages abundant repeat flowering.

Planting and Maintenance:

When planting, make sure to dig a hole wide enough for the root ball, with the first inch of the branches positioned just below the soil level. Avoid teasing out the roots to prevent damage. If your rose is purchased early in the year, it's best to keep it in its pot until early June, allowing time for the roots to establish.

Awards and Recognition:

The Little Sunset rose is a celebrated variety, having earned prestigious accolades such as the Baden bei Wien Gold Medal in 2009 and the Silver Medal at the Australian National Rose Trials in 2012.

This enchanting patio shrub rose adds a splash of colour and charm to any garden, making it an excellent choice for gardeners of all skill levels and a wonderful gift for any occasion.
