What is a bare root rose?

A bare root rose is a rose plant that is sold with its roots exposed rather than planted in soil in a pot. These are typically available during the rose's dormancy period (late autumn to early spring) and are often chosen for planting in gardens.

Rose 'Nostalgia'

A Timeless Beauty

In the enchanting world of roses, few varieties command attention quite like the Nostalgia Hybrid Tea Rose. Bred by the talented Hans Jürgen Evers of Rosen Tantau, this exquisite rose captures the essence of classic rose gardening with its breathtaking colour interplay and unique blooms that charm and inspire.

Unusual Blooms and Fragrance

The Nostalgia rose presents large, full flowers that gracefully transition from creamy-white at the centre to vibrant cherry-red at the edges. This stunning effect is reminiscent of a sumptuous radish carved into a rose, promising an eye-catching display in any setting. Each bloom is heavily fragrant, releasing a sweet, captivating aroma that evokes fond memories and a sense of nostalgia.

Compact and Versatile

Designed for gardens of all sizes, the Nostalgia rose features a compact growth habit, reaching an approximate height of 1 metre. Its glossy foliage and attractive new growth ensure it stands out beautifully in any garden scheme. The elegant long stems make it perfect for cutting, allowing the stunning flowers to be showcased indoors, where their beauty can be admired up close.

Awards and Recognition

The Nostalgia rose has been honoured with the prestigious RHS Award of Garden Merit, recognising its disease-resistant foliage and reliable repeated blooms from June through to October. This accolade highlights its exceptional hardiness and beauty, solidifying its place as a treasured addition to any rose garden.

Growing and Care

For the Nostalgia rose to flourish, plant it in rich, well-drained soil in a spot that receives full sun or light shade. A spring mulch of garden compost or manure will nourish its roots, while feeding in early summer will enhance growth and flowering. Prune in late winter or early spring to maintain its elegant shape and encourage robust growth.

Planting Companions

To create a striking and cohesive garden scene, consider planting Nostalgia alongside other hybrid tea roses, such as the bold Ruby Wedding in full cherry red. Alternatively, pairing it with long-flowering hardy geraniums or encircling it with a fragrant lavender hedge will create a delightful and vibrant display.

A Rose for Every Garden

Whether you wish to inject a touch of nostalgia into your garden or simply seek a rose that seamlessly combines beauty with reliability, the Nostalgia Hybrid Tea Rose is an exceptional choice. With its unique blooms, alluring fragrance, and compact growth, this rose is a timeless treasure that promises to enchant gardeners for generations to come.
