Advice
What is a bare root rose?

A bare root rose is a rose plant that is sold with its roots exposed rather than planted in soil in a pot. These are typically available during the rose's dormancy period (late autumn to early spring) and are often chosen for planting in gardens.

Bare root or Potted
What is the difference between potted and bare root roses?

  • Bare root roses are supplied without soil and are typically only available from late autumn to early spring.
When is the best time to plant potted and bare root roses?
  • Potted roses can be planted at any time of the year, provided the ground isn’t frozen or waterlogged.
  • Bare root roses are best planted between November and March, while they are dormant.

Will bare root roses take longer to establish than potted roses?

Bare root roses may take slightly longer to establish, but they often catch up quickly with proper care.

Are bare root roses lower quality than potted roses?

No, both bare root and potted roses are of the same quality. The difference lies in how they are sold and planted.

Yes, you can purchase bare root roses year-round, but we only ship them from November, depending on weather conditions

Do potted roses need special care after planting?

The Paws shrub rose is a stunning addition to any garden, effortlessly combining old-world charm with modern reliability. This delightful variety is celebrated for its prolific blooming habit, providing a vibrant display of colour throughout the growing season, allowing your garden to come alive with beauty.

Characteristics

  • Flowers: The Paws shrub rose features exquisite multi-petalled blooms that radiate a soft, romantic allure reminiscent of traditional roses. These medium-sized flowers are available in a variety of captivating colours that will enhance any landscape.
  • Growth Habit: Known for its robustness and reliability, this shrub rose typically reaches heights of between 4 to 6 feet. Its graceful, bushy form makes it an ideal choice for borders, hedges, or as a standalone focal point in your garden.
  • Fragrance: While many modern shrub roses may lack a strong fragrance, some of the Paws varieties carry a delicate scent, particularly those with heritage from Rugosas and Hybrid Musks, adding an extra sensory delight to your garden.
  • Hardiness: Renowned for their toughness, Paws shrub roses thrive in various conditions. They are repeat-flowering, providing consistent colour even when other plants have completed their blooming cycles.

Cultivation

To ensure your Paws shrub rose flourishes, plant it in well-draining soil with full sun to partial shade. Regular watering and occasional fertilisation will support its health and vigour. Pruning in late winter or early spring is recommended to encourage new growth and maximise blooming potential.

Companion Plants

Enhance your garden’s beauty by pairing the Paws shrub rose with complementary plants such as:

  • Lavender for its aromatic foliage and vibrant purple blooms.
  • Catmint to create a charming contrast with its soft blue flowers.
  • Delphiniums to add vertical interest and a pop of colour.

Immerse your garden in the charm of the Paws shrub rose, and watch as it transforms your outdoor haven into a picturesque landscape.
