Advice
What is a bare root rose?

A bare root rose is a rose plant that is sold with its roots exposed rather than planted in soil in a pot. These are typically available during the rose's dormancy period (late autumn to early spring) and are often chosen for planting in gardens.

Background

  • Introduction: Introduced by Peter Beales in 2020, this rose holds a unique spot within the UK garden scene.
  • Charitable Connection: Named in honour of St. Luke’s Hospice, which provides exceptional palliative and end-of-life care, this rose's introduction was supported by West and Coe, along with the local support group, Stepping Forward.

Cultivation Tips

  • Planting: For bare root roses, ensure the roots are moist and avoid planting during frosty conditions. If received in frost, 'heel in' until the weather improves. Container roses can be planted throughout the year, but it's best to allow time for their roots to establish before transplanting.

The Pearl of St. Luke's is an excellent choice for both passionate rose enthusiasts and beginner gardeners alike, offering a blend of beauty, fragrance, and low-maintenance appeal. It's a wonderful gift for anyone looking to enhance their garden with vibrant, scented blooms.

  • Sedum: The succulent foliage provides a contrasting texture and is drought-tolerant.
  • Foxgloves: Their tall spires will add vertical interest and attract pollinators to your garden.
