Advice
What is a bare root rose?

A bare root rose is a rose plant that is sold with its roots exposed rather than planted in soil in a pot. These are typically available during the rose's dormancy period (late autumn to early spring) and are often chosen for planting in gardens.

Pink Perpétue (Climbing Rose)

Description

The Pink Perpétue is an exceptional climbing rose that enchants with its clusters of deeply fragrant, fully double flowers in a rich pink hue. Bred by Gregory in 1965, this modern climber is remarkably adaptable, making it an excellent choice for a variety of garden designs.

Key Features

  • Flowers: The rose showcases an abundance of fragrant, fully double blooms in a stunning deep pink. Each petal is delicately rolled, releasing a powerful, vintage rose scent that delights the senses.
  • Foliage: Its dark green foliage forms a lush backdrop, highlighting the vibrant flowers and contributing to the overall beauty of your garden.
  • Growth Habit: Pink Perpétue is a vigorous climber, reaching heights of up to 12 feet (3.6 metres) and spreading 8 feet (2.4 metres) wide. It is perfect for adorning walls, pillars, pergolas, or trellises.
  • Versatility: This rose thrives even in less-than-ideal conditions, tolerating poorer soils and partial shade, making it well-suited for north-facing walls.
  • Repeat Flowering: Enjoy a continuous display of blooms throughout summer and into early autumn with this repeat-flowering variety.
  • Maintenance: With standard climbing rose care, including proper winter pruning and training, Pink Perpétue will continue to flourish. Regularly remove any damaged, diseased, or dead wood, and tie in new growth horizontally to encourage abundant flowering.

Planting and Care

For the best results, plant your Pink Perpétue in well-drained soil, capable of accommodating a pH from acidic to alkaline. Adequate water and partial to full sun exposure are essential. When planting, avoid woodchips and adhere to recommended planting practices to ensure the health of the root system.

Additional Tips

  • Pruning: Prune in winter by removing the 'Three D's' (damaged, diseased, and dead wood). Stagger your cuts to encourage strong new growth and prolific flowering.
  • Fertilization: Feed with a slow-release granular fertiliser post-flowering to promote an encore of blooms.

The Pink Perpétue is the ideal choice for gardeners seeking a fragrant and visually captivating climbing rose. Its robust growth and stunning floral display will create a masterpiece in any garden setting.
