Rosie Celebrates 10 Years At Peter Beales Roses

Rosie joined the Peter Beales Roses team in 2015, working in the Tea Room (now known as the Rosarium Restaurant). After two years working with the restaurant team, she traded her waitressing apron for gardening gloves and shears and joined the rose production team.

Since then, she has done everything from budding roses in the field to packing and sending out customers’ bare root orders. Today, she is one of our Junior Rosarians and a valued member of our flower show team.

What is something that most people don’t know about roses?

When I talk to customers at shows or at our garden centre, they are always shocked when we tell them how versatile roses can be. Roses aren’t just for flower beds; you can grow them up a pergola or use them to cover a wall you don’t like the look of, or wind them in with other plants like a clematis. There are even roses that grow well in the shade, so there really is a rose for most outdoor spaces.

What is your favourite memory while working at Peter Beales Roses?

I love being part of the show team each year; it is such a rewarding experience. We spend months organising everything and setting up our stand, so it is the best feeling when you see it all come together.

What is your top rose care tip?

It sounds simple, but the best thing you can do for your rose is to make sure they are getting plenty of water through the growing season. In the summer, you should be watering your rose every other day, or if it’s in a pot, every day.
